Did We Cause Change?

The Earth is getting warmer and climatic changes are on for all to see. It's raining and snowing where it never has, and, cold freezing places have seen temperatures soaring to 40 degrees Celsius. But the questions I ask are
  1. is the human race responsible for this change?
  2. Are we big enough to effect such changes?
  3. Is it our ego that makes us believe that we can bring about such a change?

Let us look at the ice age and the dinosaurs. Did the growing population of there gigantic animals that ruled the land, sea and sky cause climatic changes that brought on the ice age? The reason for the ice age can be better attributed to
  • an  impact of a giant asteroid
  • high radiations from a supernova
  • an epidemic
  • a volcano that created a layer of dust that blocked sunlight for years
  • a change in the shape of Earth's orbit...making it hotter or colder
  • a change in the tilt of Earth's axis...heating or melting the poles
  • a wobble of the Earth about its axis...changing the time and duration of a season
These reasons apply as much now as they did back then for climatic changes that seem to want to wipe out human/dinosaur presence on Earth.

Oh! Passing sojourner on Earth’s largess
The Earth warmer now than ever before,
And damned are the gases spilt forth.

Two centuries have passed since a driven wheel
Ploughed the dirt to form scopionic paths,
Lunges forward now on unplumed wings.

Are we the reason for the Warming Earth?
Or are we too small to shape a Universe in flux?
Are two centauries ample to affect a change?

Change is nucleus to the space we float in
Too removed from our sphere of influence,
Do dinosaurs lay a claim to the Ice age?

No control we wield over nature’s umbrage.
We pump our egos thinking ‘WE’ create change
Megalomania, I think we need be accused of.

We are too small to reign in the monster
Let things go on as planned destinies.
Climate has changed and so has life.

Time now worshiped in vain life altars
Brio dreams zip in tired half-shut eyes and
Adrenaline pushes our thick clogged vessels.

Now bonds valued as the stocked bull runs
Love now devoid of devoir bonding as
Lost souls spill into sidewalks and alleys.

Find your universe in the embrace of arms
This sphere you can control and inspire
Choose to illumine or in a dark world live.

This is quite a different perspective on this subject. I think it's not a single factor like only the environment or only human lifestyle which effects the change. It is definitely a combination of both though one is independent of the other. We, humans do not have a control over the nature but there are many potential efforts in our hands too. If humans shun down 50% trees in the world in another 10 years without replanting, it should definitely make a difference. Isn't?

Your poem sounds very genuine. Best wishes!

You are on to much more than the environment.
There is only one thing on which we have some control, that is our own lives..barring the ' planned destinies" you said. We can choose how we live our lives.
Love was always a fantasy, and never had a bonding. If so,it would have survived.
You have given me an answer to an earlier question.Do you write poems?
Excellent post. keep on writing.

very thought provoking. I think we are all quite irresponsible when it comes to using resources. as individuals if we just saved a tiny bit more than what we normally do, then probably we can help the environment in a very large way.

A gr8 thought and a lovely poem. I personally feel that we tend to be careless with things . Small efforts like organized disposal of wastes, swithing off taps and electricity, avoiding wastage of food etc can make our planet a safer place. We need to preserve the gift of nature. It is scary to think what life would be without prakriti....so indirectly we are contributing to the climatic changes. Even if we are not, it makes sense to stop and pause and reflect

It was just a thought...are we big enough to cause change in such a gigantic entity called The Earth?

I think we are! and we have changed the climate with our polluting ways and increasing dependence on mechanization. What can we do about it? We can effectfully bring about change in our sphere of influence. That is the only sphere were we some control over how things are done. We have to get more proactive and involved in the daily business of looking after the most valuable property, Nature, on Earth. We have taken over from other animals, a home that we are not looking after well...we owe it to them.

The problem is we are speeding the process of climate change.

We are tiny to cause any major upheavals in the scheme of matures's things.Things may happen despite our best efforts.Countries may be submerged and new ones erupt.Change is inexorable and inevitable. But hat should not preclude us from attempts not to aggravate oor hasten the adverse changes.A nice post triggering the thought procss

Nalini,
I agree with you.In fact only we human are responsible for these changes. We are exployeting this earth very fast and not trying to save our nature. So these changes are taking place.I always think --ultimately what will be result?
Your poetry is very effective and nice.
Best wishes.

Naliniji, wht I understood from ur post was that u don't agree that humans can make such a gigantic change. but later in your comments I read that it was just a thought which struck ur mind.

If u r questioning, then yes, i think we humans are capable of that, we disturbed the cycle of nature and we have consequences to face.
