Across the hall the eyes meet
Locked as if frozen stuck
The view blurs all around
And time flees in freefall
As the focus zooms in
To the appearance, voice,
The gestures and smell.
They move forward prod
As if by an unseen hand
Till there they stood
Lost in the sea of humanity
With a cyclone rising in them
That threatened to drown
Them in the whirlpool
Of a swirling universe.
“He smells divine,
As divine as he looks”
As disorder hits a nerve,
“Why do I believe
I will cease to be
If not with him?”
Is he the faceless stranger
Who waits around the corner
In her lonely dreams?
“It is he!” she whispered with
Her heart now in her throat,
Is she in control of herself
As her heart beats fast
And her thoughts gallop?
Asudden they started talking
Words blurted out in animation
Incomplete sentences
That made no sense at all
And came the giggles
And then the candid laughter
As the rising warmth
Broke the ice and the distance.

Haha, I'm the first to comment!
I think pheromones are so overrated, we are not insects!
Your poem reminds me of countless hindi movie scenes when the heroine meets the hero....oo lala
fireworks and magic or pheromones :)
"To love a person is to learn the song that is in their heart, and to sing it to them when they have forgotten"
Do pheromones actually work? I think a great cologne works miracles...pheromones just remind me of those lusty malayalam descriptions in old classics..Can't say I have read them in Malayalam, but the English translations tend to suggest that the Malayali love machine works primarily on pheromones...I don't know why I still doubt it..:)
Do read the links I provided in
'Pheromones are the reason for love at first sight...or is it love at first smell?'
I think its scientifically proven.
I think it was Musk after shave that did me .. ;)
I wish I had this information when I was in college ... all the missed opportunities :)
Nice poem Nalini.
For a moment, I thought I am watching them too closely...
You set it up nicely...I loved it!
Good one Nalini...Lovely:)
Wonderful work Nalini :)
Keep up the good work!
Cheers!!
maybe all meeting are planned in advance by the string puller, ah there i go again the freewill v/s destiny crap
Nice poem.
Pheromones do work don't they?
We are indeed like insects!
Nice poem! :)
Do you normally write in free verse?
Love or a massive crush or the beginning of a relationship - I think ofcourse it can happen at first sight. May or may not last.
Phermones... a nice concept to write a poem on... quite scientific I must admit...
pure feelings..nicely phrased.. :)
Really liked the way you delivered the moments lived up by the couple. extraordinary work especially the last 8 lines.
Did read the scientific link about Pheromones. Its great reading your blog.

Lost in the sea of humanity
With a cyclone rising in them
That threatened to drown

Of a swirling universe.
