A Proud Survivor

dyslexia_small11

I am a dyslexic confident survivor,
Battled the taunts to emerge braver.
School was a nightmare best forgotten,
Tables ‘n’ writing made my brain molten.

Tears in my eyes I remember very clearly,
When asked in class to read a poem loudly.
No report card had more zeros than mine,
My handwriting! A crow walked on the line!

The written symbol and the spoken sound,
Foxed and cornered, I revolted out loud.
Now I write poems without much trouble,
With rhythm flow words without a fumble.

No fear or angst just high self-esteem,
Vivacious tranquility colours my dream.

This is a true story...I heap a 10 ton thanks on my computer for correcting all my misspelt words in my poems and in my comments!!!!  and if you still find some, do tell me coz I have got thick skinned enough not to take it to heart!  LOL

Thanks for posting that Nalini. My son is dyslexic but I never mention it because I do not want anyone to treat him like a misfit or him to lose his confidence. I have told him about it a bit so that he will not get frustrated over the spellings etc.
I am glad that you have emerged a great winner and never allowed it to hold you back

But you should tell him...it will help him coz then he knows that it is no fault of his...that would boost his confidence.
my son is dyslexic too...but since I understood I didn't allow him to feel it is a problem...I always told him what he wrote and not how, was important.
I also showed him Mahatma Gandhi's handwriting...and the great dyslexic scientists too.

You have portrayed the emotions of a dyslexic child so wonderfully. got to know more about them only after watching TZP.

You have a way with words Nalini :) Kudos.
